The McKinley High School's College and Career Center provides students with individual assistance to better prepare them for the TRANSITION from high school to college and to help them with setting career goals
Objectives
  • To provide ALL students with information and options concerning careers, post high school education and job training beyond high school to provide a library of printed and audio visual materials to assist students with personal career exploration.
  • To provide a library of printed and audio visual materials to assist students with personal career exploration.
  • To train and assist students to utilize the Career Kokua system for instant information regarding careers, colleges, scholarships, and financial aid.
  • To disseminate information to the students regarding career and college speakers, enrichment workshops, financial aid and scholarships, job shadowing, testing, and career exploration opportunities.

Location
Presiden William McKinley High School's College and Career Center is located in the Administration building. It houses the Post High School Counseling Office (A119).

Hours
The College and Career Center is open daily from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Students are encouraged and welcomed to visit the center at any time before school, after school and during the lunch period. Students may come to the center during the regular class period only by appointment and the respective teacher's approval.

Services Available

The Post High School Counselor provides the students with the following services:

  • personal counseling regarding education beyond high school
  • information regarding tests needed for college
  • (SAT I/II, ACT, PSAT, AP, TOEFL)
  • Scholarship and financial aid information and applications

The Clerk Typist II provides the students with the following services:

  • supervise the Advance Guidance Students
  • maintain all inventory, assist with clerical task and advertisements
  • provides off-campus passes
  • provides scholarship information and applications

The Career Services Coordinator provides the students with the following services:

  • personal counseling regarding career and employment plans beyond high school skills
  • assistance in evaluating students' values, interests, personality and career choice (this includes using career "assessments")
  • opportunities for career exploration via guest speakers, career shadowing, and internships
  • information on occupations, wages, job outlook and hiring requirements
  • work permits for students who work part-time
  • workshops on self-awareness, decision-making, career planning and job-seeking
  • ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Testing

All activities and events sponsored by the College and Career Center are publicized through a bi-monthly bulletin which is e-mail to each classroom for posting and copies are kept in the office for students or anyone to have. Announcement are also placed in the President William McKinley High School's daily bulletin and the McKinley High School's newspaper, The Daily Pinion for advertisement.
